On top Down Under: In the quickest side-by-side drag race in Australian history, two-time NHRA Top firing material world champion Scott Kalitta grabbed the title memorial of conquest and bragging rights over his Kalitta Motorsports teammate and native Australian Dave Grubnic in the final spherical of Top Fuel eliminations at the USA v Australia Boxing Day Top combustibles Nitro Thunder, contested Dec. 26 at Western Sydney Int'l Dragway in Sydney Australia. Grubnic became the 16th and final member of the Australian foursecond company with his second qualifying effort of 482 He also became and nothing else the sixth driver to surpass 300 mph in Australian history with his 30536-mph posting in that same session.
